Timeless advice from those who've said it best

Hey! Welcome to Dose of Wisdom - a weekly reminder of timeless advice from those who’ve said it best.
I’m Tamer - Author and Founder of this newsletter, which I hope will offer you solace and perspective at the moments that matter most.
The modern world is full of distractions. Anxiety levels are sky-high. In our consumer society, we’re constantly pressured to exist in ways which are crumbling for many. As the old saying goes, “we often buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t like.”
This notion applies to many things in life. Taking a job you don’t want. Studying a profession or trade you never cared for. Enduring toxic relationships for far too long. Doing what society expects of you for the sake of it.
As a consequence, there’s a massive mental health crisis which afflicts many of us. Medications, therapists, meditation apps, and self-help books have never really helped me (which is not to say they aren’t effective or haven’t helped millions of people).
However, one thing that’s helped immensely is philosophy. In the simplest definition, a philosopher is one who seeks wisdom or enlightenment. Perhaps that’s you.
There are many different “schools” of philosophy - you may of heard of stoicism, confucianism, existentialism, idealism, and countless others. While ideas may be gathered from various schools, we won’t be focusing on any one in particular because great ideas need not exist in vacuums.
These doses may or may not impact you profoundly. That’s okay. There are no expectations. Perhaps you’ll inspired, comforted, or a lightbulb will spark.
Your first dose is from Confucius - a philosopher who lived 2,500 years ago in ancient China. I was recently let go unexpectedly from a company I thought I’d have a long run with. At first I was stunned. But life is too short, which is ultimately what prompted me to start this project.
We have two lives. The second begins when we realize we have just one.
Considerations
It’s perfectly normal to have regret and mistakes, but try not to let failure prevent you from turning the page
Try saying ‘no’ more often - live your life versus living up to everyone else’s version of you
That business, project, hobby, side hustle you want to start? Go for it, even if step 1 is a simple google search
